staff
Today I join environmental advocates, including the Sierra Club, numerous elected officials, and citizens all over the country in condemning the Executive Order issued yesterday by President Trump which seeks to eliminate the Clean Power Plan. rnIllinois has led the nation in terms of supporting investment in clean energy and green jobs. This Executive Order dismisses and disregards the science of climate change and is a significant regression from the progress we have made to protect our environment in recent years. It also puts a halt to the growth and development of the clean energy sector and thousands of jobs that could be created. As a state legislator, I am committed to continuing my work with stakeholders and colleagues to ensure we do all we can to keep our air and water clean, regardless of what happens on the federal level.rnAs a state legislator, I am committed to continuing my work with stakeholders and colleagues to ensure we do all we can to keep our air and water clean, regardless of what happens on the federal level.rnThe Clean Power Plan was adopted by the US EPA after a multi-year process convening stakeholders to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This resulted in critical rule changes expected to reduce climate-altering pollution dramatically. rnThis bill not only rolls back these important environmental protections, it also squanders the opportunity to create new jobs in the green energy market. We are turning our back on a win-win and instead opting for a lose-lose. It is ill-informed, irresponsible and reckless.
